Anyone who loves to buy Made in Maine products has probably heard of Lisa-Marie Stewart. Her stores in Bath and Portland are dedicated to selling only products from Maine.Stewart is also an artist who has designed a renowned line of hand-painted glassware.Photos: Lisa Marie's Made in Maine"There's just something about made in Maine versus made in any other state," said Stewart.Stewart represents more than 400 Maine artists and craftsmen.In 2003, she and her husband opened their first Lisa Marie's Made in Maine store.Stewart said they opened the store out of frustration, because as an artist, she had very little time to market or sell her work."It was always a struggle to find, to get an income on a regular basis. Now I have that venue for all these artisans here," Stewart.Stewart provides a single venue for Maine artists and craftsmen to sell their products, meaning year-round income and enthusiastic representation."So they love the fact that we are educating the customer about them and their work, and they just give me the inventory and let us sell it for them. You won't find anything made in China in here," said Stewart.Stewart's daughter runs the family's second store, which opened in Portland's Old Port four years ago.Marie Stewart Harmon said it's not just the artists, but the customers who also appreciate knowing the personal story behind the piece they have purchased."I think it's really exciting that they get to come in here, and I can tell them about the artist. I can tell them about the person behind the product and how it's their livelihood," said Harmon.Stewart said after a long day at her store, there is nothing more therapeutic than going home to her glassware: an art that is her passion."I love sitting back and doing my art.
