Postmodern Pastel Plates

We’ve know each other quite a while now haven’t we? And it’s fair to say that I’m not a great one for pattern. Unless it’s mainly monochrome. And really quite geometric. And really not too bright and ooh look at these…

They’re part of a range called Stolen From De Stijl by Darkroom London, and I think they’re gorgeous. De Stijl was a Dutch movement in the 1920s which used a palette of monochrome and primary colours. Mondrian and Gerrit Reitveld are among the most recognised of its adherents.

The Darkroom designers have re-imagined the original concept for a contemporary audience. There is also a second collection inspired by the great Italian designer and founder of the Memphis movement Ettore Sottsass.

Sadly I don’t think they really for eating off – well not at £65 a go anyway. Well not in the dishwasher at least. Mind you I note that there is currently a 20 per cent discount if you sign up for the newsletter.

Mind you, it probably goes without saying, that I also love their tribal range which would mix really well with all of the above. Or, if you were going to eat off them then adding one or two into a collection of mainly plain white crockery would look amazing on the table.

They also do furniture as well as bags and accessories. Have Happy Sunday people.

  1. LOVE the black and white tribal plates! As you say, mixing a few with plain white plates would be striking!

I recently purchased candles identical to the ones in their photos, but in white with copper, with silver, and with gold stripes to use in clear glass or assorted metallic candle holders. I hadn’t seen them anywhere else.

I can’t tell you how much I enjoy your site!
