A Drinking Game - Minnesota

  • Bryant Lake Bowl 810 W Lake St Minneapolis United States (map)

A Drinking Game Minnesota is a live stage reading of popular movies and cult classics that not only give the audience members drinking cues, but also the performers. During a show you're going to see a cast of actors do a live-stage reading of ______! There will be drinking cues for the actors, and for the audience members as well. For the actors, when another character says their characters name, they will drink. So, when the actor playing _____ says "Hello _________!" the performer playing the named character will drink, and etc. Now, we have a narrator that helps us explain some scene transitions that may not come across without the benefit of a full set or CGI. That narrator will be saying the actors’ names as they read the stage directions, and they DO NOT drink when I read them. So, when another actor says another actor’s name, they drink, when I say them, they don't. Now the fun part for the audience, when the actors say certain phrases that are on your program, that's when they drink! When you hear the actors say the cues that we choose based on the movie, they take a sip of your drink. We try to pick words that are spoken a lot specifically for the movie we’re performing and not selecting words like “the” or “and”. We feel that’s cheating. For example, when we did Frozen, we chose words like “ice” and “snow”. The same rule about the narrator saying the cues applies as though it were a character’s name in the show. If the narrator says them, NO drinking. Only when an actor says them in their dialogue. Now about that drinking: Don't chug, sip. If you chug, you may die. Imagine getting some of your best friends together to reenact some of your favorite moments in film history over your favorite food and libations. Now pair that with some of the best theatre cultures around and a venue like the BLB and that is truly a winning combo.
