Oil tanker collides with sand barge near Zhoushan, three missing

Chinese oil tanker Heng Fan 178, operated by Zhoushan Hengfan Shipping, collided with sand barge Zhe Lin Ji 621 near Zhoushan yesterday.

Heng Fan 178, which was carrying bunker oil from Tianjin to Fuzhou, suffered minor damage while the sand barge sunk after the collision and three crew from the vessel are missing.

Zhoushan Maritime Rescue Center has sent a search and rescue team after receiving a distress call from the tanker. Eleven ships including nearby merchant ships have joined the search operations.
