Anuel AA has been in jail since April, 2016. But tonight at midnight, just hours before his release from a Miami prison, he’ll drop his debut album, Real Hasta la Muerte, Billboard can exclusively reveal.
It’s a major surprise move from the 25-year-old Anuel, who spent 30 months behind bars for a relatively minor offense; he was sentenced for “possession of a firearm” and had no priors, according to his court judgment.
The 12-track set, produced by fellow Puerto Rican Chris Jeday, includes duets with the likes of Zion and good friend Ozuna.
Real Hasta la Muerte, distributed by The Orchard, was entirely conceived and recorded by Anuel as he served his sentence. The release date has been kept tightly under wraps, with many expecting it to happen once Anuel walked free. But as it stands, the album will hit all digital platforms while Anuel is still behind bars.
Just how Anuel was able to write and record will be the subject of an in-depth Billboard interview with the artist, taking place immediately after his release and slated to post on all digital platforms on Wednesday at 9 am.
Stay tuned!
