Shut Down City Hall NYC
Monday, August 1 - 9:00 am
City Hall Park, Manhattan
Approaching the 2 year mark of the Ferguson Uprising on August 9, Millions March NYC is calling for the OCCUPATION OF CITY HALL PARK starting Monday August 1, 2016 at 9 AM. It is time we escalate our organizational tactics against this racist system, which continues to execute Black & Brown people with impunity–most recently #DelrawnSmall in East New York, Brooklyn.
We demand:
1. Fire NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton #FireBillBratton
2. Reparations for all survivors & victims of racist police brutality from NYPD budget
3. Defund NYPD’s $5.5 billion annual budget & re-invest into Black & Brown communities
We’ve had enough. There has been NO accountability for killer kkkops murdering Black and Brown people, and frankly we do not expect any from our corrupt and racist city government. We have marched, we have fought and gotten indictments, we have fought and gotten convictions–and still not one killer kkkop has served jail time. We are clear this white supremacist, capitalist hetero-cis-patriarchy will NEVER hold itself accountable.
Amerikkkan police originated as slave patrols, and have never served any other purpose than to surveil, control, brutalize and kill Black, Brown and Indigenous people. Policing is a violent institution rooted in anti-Blackness, that has expanded into a heavily militarized, occupying force in Black, Brown, and working class communities. Police killed over 1,100 people in 2015, and are on track to surpass that this year with 622 murders as of July 12, 2016. Black people are shot and killed by police at 2.5 times the rate of white people.Yet NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio and the City Council have chosen to hire more than 1,300 additional kkkops rather than invest in the actual safety of our communities through jobs with a $15/hr minimum wage, education, healthcare, and alternatives to the police such as mental health first responders. Mayor de Blasio is joined at the hip to NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton, who was previously commissioner for notoriously racist Rudy Giuliani, and is the architect of “Broken Windows Policing” which Frederick Douglass presciently summarized in 1845: “The slaveowner’s plan was to whip for the smallest offenses, to prevent the commission of large ones.”
We fight for the abolition of policing and prisons and will not be fooled or derailed by fake reforms like body cameras and “community policing” which further increase the budget and power of the racist and brutal NYPD.
During #ShutDownCityHallNYC there will be outreach to the courts, education, trainings, and much more. We invite all activists and community members to come and make their voices heard in support of these demands and with their own demands.
If we don’t get it – shut it down!
