Only 63 days left until the 2016 State Fair of Texas kicks off. But who’s counting? This year, for the first time ever, the State Fair of Texas is announcing the names of the 34 Big Tex Choice Awards semi-finalists who are competing for fried-food supremacy. Here is the list:
Based on the names alone, I’m rooting for the Pina-A lot-Ta, Deep Fried Hawaiian Hoops, and Injectable Great Balls of BBQ. I have no idea what any of these dishes actually are, but I do think it’d be fun to watch people get injected with barbecue balls.
All of the items will be re-reviewed over the next couple of weeks during the second round of preliminary judging. And on Sunday, August 28 the public can attend the 2016 Big Tex Choice Awards where they’ll get to taste a handful of these dishes. More information can be found here.
