Wyldest's new single "The Poet" is four minutes of hypnotic perfection
London-based threesome Wyldest have shared "The Poet", their first new material since last year's Dark Matter EP.
Much of Wyldest's 2016 was spent writing and recording new music, with "The Poet" a preview of their labours. Guy Massey (Idlewild, Palma Violets) returns to produce.
"The Poet" sees the trio - Zoe Mead, Mariin Kallikorm, and Jack Gooderham - at their deliriously dreamy best. It's a funky take on the Warpaint-style psych/shoegaze-pop, with pedalboard effects woozily whirlpooling around a central beat and off-kilter riff - by the time the final seconds roll around, "The Poet" has grown into a pure, pristine mayhem.
"'The Poet' is about the struggle I've seen from many creative people I have either known or read about," Mead says. "It's a struggle that everyone can relate to on some level, about communicating, compromising, and finding an outlet to express oneself. But for some the desire to create seems irrepressible or incompatible with the expectations of others, so they feel conflicted and isolated."
