Marijuana Industry Recruiting More Businesswomen

Chicago Marijuana

The marijuana industry wants to see more women in leadership positions. Some say that women hold a “unique position as medical marijuana consumers.” For instance, chronic illnesses tend to start at younger ages in women than men.

In Illinois, the demographic with the highest concentration of medical marijuana patients is older women, according to Fox 47 News.

Jamie Goswick of Women Grow, an organization started in 2014 that connects, educates, and empowers women in the marijuana industry, said, “Women hold a very powerful influence in our movement. A lot of women make the medical and financial decisions within the household.”

Colorado dispensary consultant Stormy Simon said, “Women in this industry can absolutely lead the charge, the plant is healing, I think there’s a lot of interest in it when we talk about these children or seizures or these diseases that women are very interested in.”

Simon also stated, “This industry will do the same to medicine, it’s going to turn it upside down, and the industry’s going to have to respond to that.”

In terms of making money in the industry, public opinion about marijuana needs to change a bit more, according to Simon. She said, “It is just a phenomenal place to be when you really understand getting past the plant and just providing a high, and getting into what this plant can really be leveraged for and used for. Women have led that charge.”
