Great day for Armitage! or, Dream days logging off and logging on

I didn’t get lunch today — first, because I still haven’t figured out how people eat sensibly who work eight to five. The whole deck seems stacked against you, no? (Any advice?) But second, because it’s just that time of year. At some point during the day I sneaked a peek at Richard Armitage’s twitter from my work computer and saw no new tweets and collapsed the tab and went back to various registration woes.

And then, at 5, logging off my work machine, I thought, why not, and logged on on my laptop and WOW!

A new trailer for The Crucible:

An announcement about the London premiere of The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies for December 1:

A new little bit of teaser extras of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug from TORn:

Which yielded THIS cap! OMG OMG OMG.

And, oh yeah — it’s the immediate wake of the digital download of Into the Storm!

I imagine this is kind of an overload day for Armitage, all these things happening at once — and probably the Sleepwalker shoot is over or close to over? —

BUT. WHAT A DAY FOR ME. Honestly, this is a sort of incomparable thing for a fan, opening the computer and logging on to find so much news. A flood that makes me so happy for me, and of course, for him. A harmonic convergence. A level of exposure that is not normal.

Someone pointed out to me that Richard Armitage’s free will horoscope for this week tells him to slack a little. What does that mean, I wonder, in an atmosphere like this?

  1. We don’t eat sensibly, we’re lucky if we eat at all at busy times of the year, or mostly at our desk some days. Or from the snack machine, can’t tell you how many days A07 from the snack machine has been my lunch because I realize it’s 3pm and I haven’t eaten and I’ve lost all desire to go anywhere to get something to eat 🙂 That means eating more than you should at dinner, not the best way at all. Welcome to the “9 to 5” world Servetus.

Yes, Great Armitage Day today, and Great Hobbit day too. I miss seeing them all together.

Now, how do I get away from work on Dec 1 so I can watch the streaming premiere? Will be thinking of all the fans making their London plans.

Thank you for posting all the news today.

    • I always used to just eat when I got hungry but that doesn’t work here — as you say, by the time you notice you’re really hungry you don’t want to eat.

I’m thinking I should have a lot of comp time by Dec 1 🙂

  2. Thanks so much for collecting these vid links and such all together!

P.S. I used to not eat lunch, too. I wasn’t hungry until about 2pm Though I fed the dogs. Ha! But now at lunchtime, I eat carrots or celery, 1/2 a plain or onion bagel, & some spinach dip and fruit at lunchtime so my blood sugars and my energy stays balanced throughout the day. And I have an apple snack late in the afternoon around 3:30pm, so my blood sugars don’t dive. I’m getting used eating a bit more while counting carbs to help manage my diabetes better. And who knew? Eating more of certains foods = weightloss. 10 pounds and counting. Ha! Good luck with your meal plan!

    • I’m never hungry at breakfast. Never. I am hungry at lunchtime, but haven’t yet gotten it together re: packing a lunch. Also, I like the excuse to get out of the building (I have no window again). but if I’m not in line for lunch by 12:05 the line is a half hour long. So yeah, I frequently end up eating more supper than I want.

      Congrats on the loss.

  3. Armitage to the left of us, Armitage to the right of us. Not that we are complaining. 😉 Re lunch–the newspaper was never a regular 8 or 9-5 job, so it was catch as catch can. I really can’t seem to keep up, but it’s nice to know it’s all out there happening for him, and he is certainly a busy guy. I’ve been having digestive issues of late and a lot of IBS attacks, so I actually ate cereal for lunch today (was out of bananas, my normal go-to for such occasions).

I feel like all the sitting is affecting my digestion, too, but I’m not sure why it would — or rather, I don’t sit that much more now …

Is it my imagination, or is Luke Evans wearing his Dracula teeth in that video?

  6. Thanks for all the info. So much going on, you need to eat lunch to keep up with it all. Especially if you don’t eat breakfast. What about protein bars and shakes in your desk? They will last beyond the Zombie Apacolispe

  7. I pack a lunch ( which I eat at 10:15 am, got students to feed a normal lunch times and eat breakfast early). I don’t eat what we serve and this might sound bad but I don’t eat that kind of stuff. I eat breakfast or I will have a headache and we are not going there. After I get home in the afternoon I eat a banana then go and workout. Then I am good till supper.

        • I suppose they eat a lot more of what we thought of as treats at home regularly now. Pizza was a big deal at school or at home and now I know it’s regular fare. I see this with my nieces all the time.

          • The high school and middle school get pizza every day. We have it about every other week, I might add pizza Fridays are nice and easy. I make pizza on a baking stone and my boys don’t like school pizza because of it. It is pizza Saturday this week. Lots of chicken nuggets, tacos, that sort of thing.

            • wow, those were once a week things for us in school.

I agree, nowadays I would turn up my nose at the kind of pizza we had in school. But we didn’t have it much at home either.

I’m trying to think what we did have. Tomato soup and cheese sandwiches, noodle casserole, maybe once every two weeks or so a hamburger, once in a while a piece of chicken … of course chicken nuggets didn’t exist back then. We did have fish sticks though.

  8. I am in academia as well, and today between faculty meetings and classes I had a 13 hour day today, I relished every RA video and clip between each though. Here’s to better balanced days!

    • I am really hoping that leaving the professoriate means no more 13 hours days. So far it’s worked! Of course, now I don’t really have breaks in the day like I used to (teach 2 hours, decompress one hour and look at vids while doing it).

  9. what a day! been beaming all day yesterday and woke up to the ice cream-photo! so kept on smiling 🙂
as to lunch, i find it tough with the desk job as it does affect digestion when i move less (i compensate that by getting up every hour and having loads of cups of tea /water). Never hungry in the morning, but because i was starving by lunch i’ve gotten in the habit of bringing a small pot of yoghurt which i eat while doing morning emails. Bec i’m not a morning person i’ve taken to pack lunch in the evening (when there is something to pack that is 😉 ) and in the morning i just dump the tupper in the bag and run out the door. I often intend to eat away from my desk but i’m bad at sticking to it. RA to blame (partly ;-)) as i’m too tempted to dip into the net so i do that while eating at my desk. But buying stuff i can take to work without a fuss and that i can pack at night for the next day has helped 🙂 Friday is indulgence day. ie cantine food 🙂 but i tend to eat later ie go at the end of the service and avoid the cues (and maybe switch to porridge/cereal in the morning to last me longer – Do you have microwaves at work?)

  10. Thanks for putting this together in one place! Seeing it like this makes me realize that it was a big day. Somehow bit by bit I hadn’t realized how much was released.

When I had an office job we didn’t have a cafeteria or any refrigeration available. One option was to go out to eat which was very expensive. Also, I had an hour for lunch but it was difficult to get to a restaurant, be seated, order, be served, eat, pay and drive back all in that hour. I started bringing my own at least some of the time. I would make peanut butter sandwiches, bring fruit (usually an apple) and sometimes chips or snack food. We did have vending machines but as you know it is very hard to find anything remotely healthy in them. I am also a fan of Clif Bars.

It is not your imagination that sitting is hard on your digestion. I went from a very active job to a sitting one and it made a huge difference. I also gained weight 😦

  11. I hesitated to respond to your “eat right at your desk” question, because I do some atypical things, but it has worked really well for me.

I bring organic salad greens in the 5 oz containers plus small containers of things I like to top with . (i.e. mushrooms, cooked chopped egg white, berries, raw nuts, tuna pouches, leftover chicken breast, etc.) Of course this is contingent on fridge space, espec. if you’re like me and don’t make up the salad ahead of time. (I hate doing that & it doesn’t seem as fresh.) I use lemon slices or vinegar for dressing & add some salt (I have no blood pressure issues). I snack on fruit or vegs (sometimes with hummus or organic sunflower seed butter- no, not the fruit :), sometimes turkey jerky or other meat. I admit to loving hummus more than a human should (my husband thinks I love it more than him 🙂

I also drink 5 or 6 17oz. bottles of water daily (about 3 of those during the work day). I have a few plastic plates that I keep here & wash to reuse, which somehow is insanely helpful. A good breakfast helps too (like steelcut oats with berries and raw nuts- yum).

    • the issue for me isn’t fridge space (we have a nice set up at work) but it’s getting all that stuff packed. I haven’t been that organized up till now. Apart from the cost of eating on campus, though, as someone noted above, the waiting in line to get something eats up precious minutes. So I am going to have to figure that out.

  12. Yeah, what a day that was. Hard to get any work done.
RA can come by my house any day for breakfast too – particularly if he wears glasses (I think they suit him :-))
(Re advice: It’s so important to take care of your stomach and digestion – I kid you not. Once seated, if I don’t get my 2 litres of water a day – the digestion simply stops.
Try to get into a routine. My daily routine is up at 6 a.m. Half an hour later breakfast (cereal or yoghurt) with the family. When I get to my office at 9 a.m., I have a slice of whole-wheat bread with cheese.
We eat lunch together at noon – all colleagues – usually I bring my own lunch, but we have a very good cantina with organic food and beverages. It’s expensive, though. We also have free organic fruit.
I have some coffee during the day (to keep me awake). At 5 p.m., when I get home, it’s straight to the cooking of dinner; the kids are usually hungry about that time, and at night we have a cup of tea in front of the telly.)
(Re the teeth: Most men have very pointed canines (the term alone); actually, I believe Richard’s were far pointier before he had his straightened and whitened, but Luke’s are exceptionally long and pointed.)

  13. Do you have a Trader Joe’s where you can shop? I used to get their frozen chicken enchiladas, a couple of their frozen Indian entrees, a tub of ginger cookies, some bag salad, a bottle of dressing, some nuts and dried fruit, and a quart of juice. That was enough to hold me for roughly a week. I just dragged the shopping bag to work. Engineers are worse than academics when it comes to eating at odd times and whatever you could get from the little shop.
