A mock sales presentation is a popular interview tactic used by sales recruiters. It is an effective way to see candidates in action. They want to see if your skills and abilities listed on your resume are as impressive as you claim.

It’s something you should expect to be part of the interview process, especially for more senior sales roles. So, you need to be prepared for it.

Why Do Hiring Companies Use Mock Sales Presentations?

There are a number of reasons why companies will ask you to take part in a mock sales presentation.

They want to see:

  1. how you run a meeting
  2. how you act in a pressure-filled situation
  3. how you compare to other candidates in a sales situation
  4. how you present sales solutions
  5. how you fit within the company’s approach to sales

3 Creative Ways to Prep for a Mock Sales Presentation in a Job Interview

Here are a number of creative ways to prepare for a mock sales presentation:

1. Role Play:

Role playing is an effective exercise to help you deal well in awkward situations. Companies want to see how you will react on the spot. They want to see you outside of your comfort zone. Practising role playing will help you think quicker on your feet. You’ll be less likely to get caught off guard if you have done some role playing in the past.

2. Practice pitching all the company products:

You never know what you will be up against until you get to the meeting. Beforehand, write down all the company products/services, then randomly select them one by one and practice pitching on the spot to your family, friends, or even a trusted sales professional.

3. Get an audience:

Practising your pitch in front of people will help you get more comfortable. Ask them to be critical, and maybe even do a thing or two to try to throw you off your game during the mock presentation.
