Craft Brewery Secretly Depletes Town's Entire Count Chocula Supply

One town in Colorado has a real life cereal killer on its hands: According to the Coloradoan, some residents of Fort Collins publicly vented their frustration when they could not get their hands a box of Count Chocula cereal. The General Mills product traditionally hits store shelves in October as part of a Halloween-timed limited release.

Turns out the reason that the local grocery store's shelves were not stocked with the chocolatey cereal was because Black Bottle Brewery "bought two Albertson's inventories" of the product. A spokesperson for the brewery explains that the large cereal purchase was to create the next brew in their Cerealiously beer series, which has featured beers made from Lucky Charms (for St. Patrick's Day of course) and Cap'n Crunch.

One melodramatic customer who couldn't procure a box of Count Chocula wrote an over-the-top letter to the newspaper: "Every year I greatly look forward to the month of October when I can purchase a few boxes of this delicious chococlatey (sic) goodness," she wrote. The writer added that she is a "vegetarian and organic food eater for the most part," but makes an exception once a year for the cereal. This year she may have to drink the cereal instead; Black Bottle Brewery's Cerealiously Count Chocola beer will be released October 30.
