Wearable technology is a hot trend and these days it usually takes shape in smartwatches, smart glasses and fitness bands. However, Toronto-based startup MeU Square has shifted the landscape and launched its wearable LED display that can be customized to be worn on clothing, bags and other accessories.
MeU Square consists of a full-color LED matrix display of 256 LEDs, a microcontroller, and a Bluetooth radio that allows wireless communication with other devices. The products brings the ability for users to display any text, image, or pattern in order to communicate a message with people around them. The LED display is managed by a smartphone application and can be changed at anytime.
“We seek to improve communication with our surroundings, including important alerts and updates that you may not get if you don’t have a smartphone, like when the next bus is coming,” said Robert Tu, CEO and Founder of MeU. “The MeU Square is a great combination of function and design. The display’s open-source technology sets no limits to the designer’s creativity across many applications and is the perfect platform for the maker and developer communities.”
MeU Square is also seeking assistance from app developers to expand its offerings. MeU Square is currently available to pre-order for $275 (USD) through its website, or at Indiegogo.
