BLITZ COVERAGE: High school football prognosticators watch season-long battle tighten

I found it a bit baffling that my fellow gridiron prognosticator Joe D’Amodio was nowhere to be found this week.

The usually bombastic Eltingville native and former Moore Catholic shortstop proved as elusive as a losing candidate on election night after stumbling slightly in our season-long competition picking local high-school football games.

I checked in the lunchroom. I checked at the coffee machine. I checked at the water cooler.

The answer to all of the above: "We haven’t seen D’Amodio."

OK, maybe he’s feeling the heat after seeing his season lead shrink to three games. D’Amodio posted an 8-2 mark while I went 9-1.

Yes sir, I have only begun to fight.

GAME OF THE WEEK: St. Joseph by-the-Sea at Monsignor Farrell, (Friday, 7 p.m.)

Joe D'Amodio (8-2, 46-15): The Lions have won four straight and there is no reason to believe that streak will end this week. Prediction: Farrell 26, St. Joseph by-the-Sea 6

Jim Waggoner (9-1, 43-18): Farrell's rugged early schedule has toughened the Lions for the stretch run. Prediction: Farrell 35, St. Joseph by-the-Sea 14.
