Since 2000, UNDP and GEF have carried out work that protects over 10 million hectares in 13 countries in Asia and the Pacifc, to improve production practices in agriculture, fisheries, forestry, tourism and extractive industries, to conserve biodiversity while driving economic growth and generating jobs. A total of 459 marine and terrestrial protected areas and indigenous and community conservation areas—covering 64 million hectares in 19 countries—has benefited from UNDP-managed GEF investment in governance, management effectiveness and livelihood generation.
This publication showcases the ground-breaking work that has taken place in recent years in this vast and disparate region to conserve land, water and ocean resources while adapting to climate change, enhancing local capacity, and generating sustainable livelihoods.
