Jameis Winston's legal advisor has requested that the Florida State quarterback's upcoming student conduct code hearing be postponed, according to reports by ESPN.com and the Tampa Bay Times.

David Cornwell, an Atlanta-based attorney who represents Winston's family, is reportedly seeking more time to prepare. The hearing is scheduled for the week of Nov. 17, but Cornwell immediately expressed displeasure via Twitter over having such a short window to prepare his client for the proceedings.

Cornwell reportedly made the delay request via a letter sent to Florida State officials on Thursday. However, it was not clear if the request would be granted.

John Clune, who represents Winston's accuser, told ESPN.com "Mr. Cornwell obviously doesn't want his client to ever do this hearing."

Winston -- the 2013 Heisman Trophy winner and a former Hueytown High School star -- faces four potential student conduct code violations stemming from a December 2012 incident in which a female student claims he sexually assaulted her (he was not charged legally in the case). A retired Florida Supreme Court judge is scheduled to preside over the hearing, at which attorneys can be present but cannot speak on their clients' behalf unless called upon.

If found to have violated FSU's student conduct code, Winston could face a variety of punishments, up to and including his suspension or expulsion from school. Seminoles head coach Jimbo Fisher has steadfastly supported Winston in the case, saying as recently as last month that "there is no victim because there was no crime."

Florida State, 8-0 and ranked No. 2 in the country, hosts Virginia on Saturday.
