Customer Footage: Solar Panel Installation Time Lapse on a Residential Home

CamDo customer Bobby Gibson, who you might remember from this bridge construction time lapse project that we featured a while back, also shared a solar panel installation time lapse with us. This project was done for a solar company called Auric Solar.

The project came about because the client wanted to show potential customers how fast and easy a solar install is. The installation process of solar power is one of the biggest barriers to purchase, as it seems like an overwhelming system to implement. The goal of the video was to combat this belief, illustrating that the installation can be completed in a single day.

“Time lapse also allows us to show the speed and precision that it takes to get these installs done and to do them right. One tip I would share is that aerial video showing off the before and after shots of these projects has really blown things open for us.  It really connects the story being told in the time lapse.” - Bobby Gibson

Gibson used Blink with a GoPro HERO4 Black with an external battery. The set-ups were mounted on roofs using wood clamps.  One of the set-ups utilized the SolarX enclosure as well. They used six cameras, so ensuring they were all running correctly and powered throughout the day was a challenge. Gibson noted that making sure that cameras caught the action but also stayed out of the way of the installation work was important.

The resulting footage was used in a digital marketing campaign.  It was shared via multiple digital channels was also played as YouTube preroll on the Auric Solar channel.  It was also in a sales presentation to show people what the install was like.
