DRAMATIC footage captures the moment a young boy diced with death after suddenly pulling out on a 60mph dual carriageway in front of an oncoming car.

The driver, who is a firefighter, came within inches of hitting the cyclist, who apparently didn't look before riding across the busy A38 in Bromsgrove, Worcs.

The dashcam clip shows the motorist slow down after seeing a group of cyclists on the road, which has a speed limit of 60mph.

A child then races across the road despite the oncoming vehicle and the driver is forced to abruptly slam on his brakes.

Luckily, the boy manages to reach the central reservation and avoid a potentially lethal collision.

Group commander for Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service, Robert Allen - who had been driving the car at the time of the near-miss - shared the footage as a reminder to stick to the speed limits - or risk "killing" a child.

He tweeted the video with the comment: "The key message for me is preventing another child doing the same.

"I wasn’t sure whether to post this but if it stops a child from being killed on the road it’s worth it!

"Today a child rode out in front of me, across the dual track, without looking!

"Thankful I was driving under the speed limit & reacted quickly!"

He added that he had spotted the group of children as he approached, and dropped his speed by 5mph in anticipation.

Had he been speeding or not paying attention, the child would have been mowed down, the firefighter added.

He wrote: "I dropped back to 49mph (it's a 60), if I hadn't I'd have hit him! He came straight out from behind the wall to the left.

"I’ve seen drivers on phones and doing way over speed limit through there, just imagine..."

West Midlands Ambulance Service have praised Robert for his "great reactions" and highlighting various safety messages.

The force also tweeted his video with the comment: "So many safety messages in one video - safe riding; sticking to the speed limit; not letting a phone or anything else distract you.

"Great reactions from Robert - could have been a very different story."
