3' 37% Ord Deaths from fires and burns are the third leading cause of fatal home injury. About 85% of all U.S. fire deaths in 2009 occurred in homes. Over one-third of home fire deaths OCcur in homes without smoke alarms. FATAL FIRES In 2010, fire departments responded to 384,000 home fires. Of the 384,000, there were a total of 2,640 deaths. On average in 2010, someone was injured every 30 minutes by a fire in the US. It was also estimated that a death due to fire occurred every 169 minutes in the US in 2010.
