Happy Lunar New Year! For those countries who follow a purely lunar calendar, the 2018 new year begins on February 16th. Lunar new year celebrations are held in many countries and typically consist of bright lights, fireworks and noise makers.

2018 Chinese New Year

The Chinese zodiac calendar rotates in a 12-year cycle. Each year has a Chinese zodiac animal with which it is associated: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig.

2018 is a year of the Dog, which is said to provide an opportunity to consolidate accomplishments, renew motivations, and plan for the year to come.

Embassy closures in celebration of the Lunar New Year

In celebration of the Lunar New Year, the Embassy of the Republic of China and the Vietnam Embassy in Ottawa will be closed on February 15th and 16th, 2018. All Consular services, including the legalization of Canadian documents, will be unavailable until they re-open.
