The Numbers Behind Halloween In The United States [Infographic]

As you prepare your costume and carve out your pumpkin, have you ever stopped to ponder about the frightening numbers behind Halloween? According to the National Retail Federation, Americans will spend $7.4 billion on Halloween products in 2014.

$2.8 million of this will be spent on Halloween costumes. Many of the revellers will be dressed as witches, animals and Batman characters, the three most popular costumes this year. 23 million people are going to dress their pets in costume and spend a whopping $350 million in the process. The most popular pet costumes for 2o14? The pumpkin, hot dog and devil.

Americans really love getting into the Halloween spirit. To get prepared, 33 million plan on visiting a haunted house. Nearly 47 percent of all people are going to decorate their home or yard while 33 percent are going to throw or attend a party. All in all, 162 million people are expected to celebrate Halloween in the US this year, up from 158 million in 2013.
