The unusual style of this novel - prose poem snippets of varying length that explore and extend the narrative - creates a different flow than your standard novel. It is engrossing and easy to read, even though there are no chapters or page numbers, because the sections play off of each other so nicely. But, style aside, the story itself is a powerful driving force. At moments deep, honest, and brutally insightful about human nature and the needs and tendencies of artists, many lines and ideas will hang with you, compelling you to reassess and adjust your own thought patterns and actions. This is a great read on its own, and even greater for the glimpse it will give many readers into a little-known and often obscured or misunderstood culture.
