A Model Partner by Daniel Seery
Check out author Daniel Seery and his novel A Model Partner, from Liberties Press.
Seery’s writing is natural and elegant in a way which carries the story– one of an introvert fed up with a dating agency that just can’t seem to find him a match– into landscapes of childhood memory and ‘modern day’ seamlessly. I am in favor of novels which give alternating perspectives be it from different characters or time periods. Seery does that with each chapter, building the human in his protagonist much as his protagonist builds his 'Model Partner’. The elements of isolation and loneliness are not sugar coated but instead actualized and humanized. The behavior of Seery’s protagonist is seen from characters outside the center of the novel as strange and disconcerting and freakish but Seery works tirelessly to illustrate how the influences of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (O.C.D) among other social disorders can affect not only one human life, but those around it. Sympathy is built in a way which does not incur pity– where Seery’s protagonist is misunderstood, he is not a villain.
