Recently on MyPeers, our users shared some tips to help children thrive in their programs.
“I am trying to develop a strategic work plan to help support teachers in the classroom when there is a high percentage of children facing additional mental or physical health challenges. Most of our classrooms have about 20% kids on an IEP/ISFP and any support is helpful. What are some creative ways that you all have helped meet the needs of teachers and students in the classroom? Here are some of the things we do now:
- bring in mental health/disability consultants
- let teachers shadow/train other teachers
- provide resources specifically for working with kiddos with MH/D
- getting parent engagement
- creating a resource library for classroom parents
- destigmatizing mental health at policy council
I know there is so much else out there, so please share your great thoughts! Thank you.”
