Before you dismiss the upcoming Black Market as just another pop-up, there are two things you need to know.

One: Blackhearts & Sparrows, Melbourne’s unpretentious, independent wine merchants, will be running the show.

Two: Raph Rashid (Beatbox Kitchen, Taco Truck, All Day Donuts) is taking care of food.

The pop-up will open its doors on September 5, giving the adjacent Huxtaburger some stiff competition in the form of tacos, fried chicken, duck-fat potatoes, homemade Salada biscuits with sardines, and other goodies. A rotating wine list has been designed to showcase the affordable and the unusual, alongside bottled and kegged beers. DJs will also be in residence at the roomy space, which once housed Cafe Vibe and the short-lived Seraphim.

Alongside the Blackhearts crew, the Black Market team includes Sarah Booth (who is also a key organiser of the Flour Market) and Adele Winteridge (of Foolscap Studio. The group plans to run the pop-up until the end of the year.

Black Market will open on Friday September 5 at 6pm.
