Grayslake Trucking Facility Raises Concerns from Neighboring Mundelein

Residents living in a neighborhood near the facility worry the business could cause traffic and safety issues and decrease property values.

The villages of Mundelein and Grayslake are in talks over a proposed 50,000-square foot trucking facility that would be located in a recently annexed portion of Grayslake that would border Mundelein, according to the Chicago Tribune.

The village of Mundelein did get approval during an August village board meeting to file a lawsuit against Grayslake since they believe the facility, which would be owned by Saia LTL Freight, would cause issues with pollution, noise and traffic for Mundelein, the Chicago Tribune reports. The village has not filed a lawsuit at this point and is working to resolve any issues with Grayslake.

In August, Grayslake annexed 33 acres of farmland located on the southwest corner of Peterson and Mdlothian roads, according to the Daily Hearld. Saia is proposing to build ”a truck terminal with 100 docks and maintenance facilities,” the newspaper reports.

The plans also call for plants, trees and a berm to buffer the facility, and 60 people could be hired to work at the trucking facility, according to the Chicago Tribune.
