Raw dog, cat food recalled after test turns up salmonella

A Connecticut company that specializes in raw pet food is recalling turkey and chicken products for cats and dogs over salmonella.

Bravo recalled turkey and chicken items over salmonella.

The manufacturer, Bravo, said in a posting on the Food and Drug Administration website the recall was prompted by positive salmonella tests conducted by Nebraska health authorities. The bacteria can harm people, who might become infected handling the food, as well as their pets. Symptoms for both include vomiting, fever and diarrhea.

The recall covers:

  • Raw Turkey Blend for dogs and cats
  • All Natural Chicken Blend for cats and dogs
  • Raw Premium Turkey Formula
  • All Natural Chicken Blend diet for dogs and cats

The items were sold nationwide to distributors, retail stores, internet retailers and directly to customers from Nov. 12, 2013.

The recall notice advised customers to return the recalled pet food to the store with a product recall claim, which can be printed from Bravo's website, for a full refund or store credit. For more information, call 866-922-9222 Monday through Friday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm (EST).
