As we approach the halfway mark of 2024, I couldn't resist sharing my top reads of the year so far. Each of these books has left an indelible mark on me, transporting me to different worlds and evoking a myriad of emotions. 1 "The Prophet Song" by Paul Lynch: A riveting tale set in a Fascist Ireland, brimming with tension and masterful storytelling. 2 "The Trial of Lotta Rae" by Siobhan Macgowan: A gripping narrative exploring the power of revenge amidst the Suffragette movement. 3 "Dead Man’s Creek" by Chris Hammer: An enthralling Australian crime thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat until the very end. 4 "Now She is Witch" by Kirsty Logan: A lyrical portrayal of intelligent, strong women defying societal norms, wrapped in themes of suffering and joy. 5 "Until August" by Gabriel Garcia Marquez: A lavish and passionate story that captivated me from start to finish. 6"The Beholders" by Hester Musson: A raw and beautifully concluded exploration of the darker side of Victorian life. 7 "Outlive" by Dr. Peter Attia: A transformative journey into well-being and the science of good health that prompted significant changes in my lifestyle. 8 "Running Grave" by JK Robert Galbraith: JK Rowling at her best, delivering an eerie and compelling detective story set in Norfolk. I'm grateful for the opportunity to dive into the worlds of these extraordinary women, each offering a unique perspective on life. Picture yourself not as a passive recipient, but as an active participant in conversations. Instead of merely absorbing what others say, imagine yourself engaging dynamically, bouncing ideas back and forth. This approach invites us to fully immerse ourselves in discussions, contributing our thoughts and insights. By embracing this mindset, we create an atmosphere of collaboration and innovation, where ideas flow freely and connections deepen. Being a trampoline listener means being receptive, curious, and responsive. It means valuing diverse perspectives and engaging wholeheartedly in dialogue. Through this approach, we foster creativity, deepen understanding, and forge stronger bonds with those around us. So, as we start the week, let's aim to be trampoline listeners—open to new ideas, eager to learn, and ready to engage with others. Have you ever experienced those tiny moments of pure joy that seem to light up your day? They're called 'glimmers,' and they're the opposite of triggers. Coined by trauma therapist Deb Dana, glimmers are those fleeting instances of awe that we encounter in our everyday lives. Whether it's witnessing a breathtaking sunset, catching a glimpse of a beautiful sunbeam, or receiving a warm smile from a stranger, these moments hold immense power. For me, our visiting Hornbill is a wonderful glimmer that fills me with joy. Glimmers go beyond just bringing joy; they work at a deeper level within our nervous system, sending signals of safety to our body. They boost our mental health, bringing feelings of ease and contentment, even if just for a moment. They remind us that amidst life's challenges, there is still hope and the possibility of moving forward. What's truly magical about glimmers is their ability to strengthen our nervous system and increase our capacity for life. They teach us that we can regain a sense of safety within ourselves and regain control. So, the next time you encounter a glimmer, embrace it fully—it's a reminder that brighter days are ahead.
