ARNPRIOR

The horrific death of an Arnprior wife has shocked the small community, who remember the 55-year-old as a friendly woman who loved to garden.

Pamela Mimnagh was run over and killed by a truck along Charles St. shortly after 2:30 p.m. Thursday.

Her husband, Clive Mimnagh, 65, has been charged in her death.

“Understandably people are reeling from this information. It’s not just a (news) story to us. It’s a deep wound,” her childhood friend Norma Shorty told the Sun from the Yukon.

She added the family is “stricken” and is asking for privacy.

In her neighbourhood, neighbours also were stunned.

“Everybody’s upset. I never slept all night last night. I was just thinking about her,” said neighbour Joan McConnell.

“That’s something you don’t forget in a few minutes. She was just such a fragile little lady.”

Pamela Mimnagh had only lived in the town of 7,500 for about a year.

But she was always friendly and said hi to neighbours. Known for her love of gardening, her home was bordered by many flowers and plants.

She spent time helping out Elections Canada.

Her husband is from Edmonton, and Mimnagh was also from out west.

Everyone knew Clive Mimnagh was in town because his truck had Alberta licence plates, say neighbours.

But despite the distance, when they were together the couple were known for their arguments, said neighbours.

Ashley Simser was home when the incident unfolded.

“At first I just heard she was hit. I thought, ‘that’s scary,’” said Simser, who assumed Mimnagh had likely been clipped by a car crossing the nearby busy intersection.

She heard later that her husband had been arrested in connection with the death.

“Very creepy. It would have been absolutely terrifying. I just saw the truck there, with everything being marked, (and police) taking the crime scene photos.”

Police canvassed the area, talking to several neighbours of Mimnagh, where an OPP cruiser sat outside her home on Friday.

Several stretches of the dead end street remained behind police tape more than 24 hours after the incident, although officers were letting residents come and go.

Several neighbours along the dead-end street said they never heard the crash but were only alerted to the incident by the sound of sirens, as police and paramedics swarmed the area.

“She was quite nice to talk to,” said McConnell.

“I couldn’t get over it because she seemed to be a nice person.”

Clive Mimnagh has been charged with dangerous driving causing death. He was remanded into custody and will in court Monday.

Mimnagh is wanted on warrants for failing to appear in court on a charge of pot possession, according to the Edmonton Sun.

He was also fined $1,150 and slapped with a 30-day licence suspension in March 2006 after being convicted of driving without due care and attention in connection with a 1997 incident.
