‘Jeopardy!’ category says what women want is to clean, exercise, shop

TORONTO – If you caught Sunday night’s Jeopardy! category called “What Women Want,” you could be excused for thinking you were watching a broadcast from the 1950s.

The segment caused outrage on social media, where people accused the show of sexism and blatant stupidity.

Watch above to see the hints given to earn answers such as Levi jeans, a vacuum (the only answer the male contestant won) and Pilates.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Aside from the answers themselves, the wording of some clues added to stereotypes of women as nagging housewives, such as “Would it kill you to get out the Bissell Bagless Canister one of these every once in a while?”

When asked the goal of including the category, if it was written by male or female staff and any response to the criticisms of sexism, Jeopardy! senior publicist Alison Shapiro said she had “no comment at this time” in an email to Global News.
