No. 18 Warriors Push Win Streak To Eight, Shut Out SMSU 2-0

WINONA, Minn. – The No. 18 Winona State soccer team pushed its winning streak to eight with a 2-0 shutout victory over Southwest Minnesota State Sunday afternoon in Winona.

The Warriors got on the scoreboard early when freshman Mikaella Sabinash scored her first career goal and the game winner in the 10th minute off an assist from Shauna Rodman for a 1-0 lead that proved to be all the scoring WSU would need.

Winona State added some insurance in the first half when Meg Riebau scored her fourth goal of the season in the 38th minute with an assist from Elizabeth Fritz for a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.

The Warriors had seven shots in the first 45 minutes, with three reaching the target. WSU turned up the pressure in the second half, posting 13 more shots while the WSU defense was stingy as usual, allowing just four shots – two on goal – in each half.

Nicole Sames accounted for a game-high four shots, while Rodman, Riebau and Alaina Kne each had three and Madalyn Jansen and Hannah Burt finished with two.

The victory marks goalkeeper Rachel Oleson's eighth shutout of the year, successfully stopping all four shots she faced in the match.

Winona State (13-1, 10-1 NSIC) heads back on the road next weekend for a Friday night matchup at Bemidji State before taking on Minnesota Crookston Sunday.
