The thrills of 'Mamma Mia!' come to Purdue

Who knew assembling the greatest hits of Swedish pop group ABBA into a musical would result in one of Broadway's most successful touring productions?

The jukebox musical "Mamma Mia!" has wowed audiences since 1999.

It's a story about a daughter and her mother who live in an idyllic paradise of an island. Sophie, 20, is about to get married and wants her father to walk her down the aisle. Too bad she has no idea who he is — but she has narrowed it down to three men.

They all come to the island, and such songs as "Dancing Queen," "Knowing Me, Knowing You," "The Winner Takes It All" and "SOS" ensue.

Presented by Purdue Convocations, this touring show is known to get audiences on their feet, especially in the final numbers, when old romances are finally rekindled, new loves come to fruition and everyone — everyone — is singing and dancing their hearts out.

More than 54 million people have seen more than 5,000 performances of this show, one of the 10 longest-running shows on Broadway.
