Tahoe Eats: Sweetie Pie’s

The last post of birthday-related post month. *Le sigh* Okay I actually can’t promise that, as Emily got me this really awesome book called Intoxicated Cupcakes: 41 Tipsy Treats, by Kate Legere, for my birthday (does the girl know me, or what?). Which obviously means I’ll be testing them out and posting them up here! And I still want to share Bec’s homemade mac and cheese recipe from my birthday barbecue, if I can find a way to get it from her! Then there’s the wine tasting trip with Charise.. But I’ll put those on hold for a bit while I try to be more crafty!

Okay, onward to the post! On our way home from Tahoe, we decided to stop for lunch in Placerville. My family was interested in seeing if a restaurant they’d been to years ago was still open. Sweetie Pie’s was in fact, still open! I was confused at first, because there is a Sweetie Pie’s in Napa, and I expected them to be part of the same chain. Spoiler: they aren’t even related!

The Sweetie Pie’s of discussion today is more of a home style diner-type bakery-restaurant, specializing I -you guessed it- pies! They also have delicious looking baked goods, from scones to homemade bread, and cupcakes to homemade English muffins.

The signs posted say that they stop serving breakfast at 1 pm, and we were seated just in time. interesting side note: our server told us that as long as you are on their wait list before 1 pm, you can order breakfast- even if you aren’t seated or don’t order til well after 1 pm!

I ordered the Veggie Scramble which had: zucchini, mushrooms, asparagus, fresh spinach, green onions, tomatoes, and a cheddar and jack cheese blend. Obviously I 86’ed the mushrooms.

As you can see, it also comes with a side; I chose a huge portion of fried potatoes, and an English muffin (not pictured). It was very, very good! I devoured the scramble and left only a few lonely potatoes by the time I was done.

My favorite part of this visit was the strawberry peach pie! Everything tasted fresh, and the crust was so flakey and practically melted in my mouth! The photo below does not do it any justice.

In August, Judy and I are taking a stone fruit pie class up-valley. I’m hoping I can concoct something as delicious as this pie in the class! I do know, that the next time I’m looking for a place to take a pit stop on the drive between Tahoe and the Bay Area, I will be stopping in Sweetie Pie’s, and ordering at least one slice of pie!
