A base metals market overview; an in-depth analysis of the global economy situation; the London Metal Exchange novelties - LME Clear and new announced products including futures on premiums - and a possible reduction in Chinese demand are also about to appear among the 40th FARO Club Meeting’s hottest topics.
«China will undoubtedly be a factor», INTL FCStone’s Senior Metal Analyst Ed Meir commented, «in that we would like to know whether the current slowdown we are seeing will translate into a hard landing. Keep in mind that the Chinese buy 40 to 60% of all the base metals we are discussing, so what happens to the economy is instrumental. But we are also going to be watching», Meir continued, «macro developments going forward; apart from the US, all other major regional economies seem to be slowing down». Meir also considered that «the course of the dollar is also quite important. Although it has weakened lately, we think it still is in a major uptrend and therefore could pressure commodities lower, at least over the short term», and concluded: « Finally, geopolitical intangibles have to be watched, such as the Russia-Ukraine crisis, developments in the Middle East, and the November deadline with Iran with regard to their nuclear program».
