plane

An American Airlines flight heading from San Francisco to Dallas made an emergency landing when a large crack appeared in the wall of the cabin (see video here).

Nervous passengers and crew inspected the tear and the captain eventually decided to turn around an hour into the flight, fearing a possible blown air duct.

Here are some video clips of other dramatic and sometimes dangerous situations involving aircraft:

Near-miss at Barcelona Airport (above)

This is the terrifying moment two passenger jets came seconds from crashing into each other at Barcelona airport.

Ryanair plane clips wing

A passenger on board one of the aircraft at Dublin Airport films planes clip each other's wings on the runway.

Wings collide on Boston runway

A Delta jet is seen clipping the tail of a much smaller plane as it taxis down the runway.

Smoke in plane cabin

Smoke fills the cabin of a JetBlue airliner forced to make an emergency landing soon after takeoff after experiencing engine problems

Too close for comfort at Newark Airport

A United Airlines plane comes into land as another takes off just below, on a runway perpendicular to it.

Collision avoided in New York

A near collision over New York skies at JFK Airport, last June, between a Delta 747 and a Shuttle America plane, that at one point were only 200ft apart.

And finally...

Snake on a plane

Less hairy for passengers than it was for the poor snake involved, this video shows what happens when a Samuel L Jackson film plot comes to life.
