Kimber Micro CDP .380 and Solo 9mm Laser Duo Highlight December Issue of GUNS Magazine

With the addition of Crimson Trace LaserGrips, the Kimber Micro CDP .380 and Solo 9mm become quintessential special purpose close-range defense pistols in the December issue of GUNS Magazine. Combining modern design with laser technology creates a pair of pistols that Massad Ayoob finds to be a dream of compact accuracy.

"The superior Tritium night sights and out-of-the-box LaserGrips greatly improve hit potential in close and fast shooting," writes Ayoob. "The streamlined rear of the Solo's slide, and the shape of the Micro CDP when cocked-and-locked, eliminate a high, square edge found on many semi-autos that can hang up on the fabric during a pocket draw. At 7 yards, shooting at a pace of a couple of seconds per shot, the Kimber .380 put five Remington ball rounds all in the headbox of an IPSC target, in a group measuring 1.35 inches."

In this issue's Out Of The Box column, John Taffin examines the Winchester SXP Marine Defender 12-gauge's practicality as a home- and self-defense shotgun.

"With its 18-inch barrel, 38-1/2-inch overall length, and weight of just over 7 pounds, the Marine Defender is quite compact and easy to handle," writes Taffin. "Using a half-size silhouette target the No. 8 birdshot provided an excellent pattern, the buckshot put all nine pellets on target and very slightly left, while the two slugs printed dead center with the holes touching each other."

This issue of GUNS also features Mike "Duke" Venturino's look at some Old West .44's, John Barsness's advice on how to quickly and correctly match a shotgun's load with a choke and John Connor's 2014 Christmas Gift Guide.
