Rumored RPG Harry Potter game could arrive in 2021.
Rumors of a new Harry Potter role-play game (RPG) have been in circulation since 2018 now, but according to Bloomberg, the game is "very real" and is being developed by Disney Infinity studio Avalanche Software.
The game, which is unannounced at this time and still a rumor, will reportedly release in late 2021 on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Bloomberg’s sources—developers on the game—remained anonymous.
The first video of the game leaked in October 2018 via Reddit. The footage can be seen in the video below:
The apparent leaked footage shows an open-world Hogwarts, spells, magical creatures, and a screen suggesting that the game will offer a fully customisable avatar. A longer description also leaked with the footage:
"Set in the 19th Century (1800's) Wizarding World, this 3rd person open-world action RPG game centers around your character with unique abilities who has earned a late acceptance to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. You are a newly arrived 5th year student to Hogwarts that demonstrates a latent gift for magic with a unique ability to track and identify remnants of a pottant [sic] ancient power.
“Upon arrival, strange events begin to materialize In the Forbidden Forrest and trouble begins o brew within the castle walls. Together with Professor Elezar Fig, you embark on a journey through both familiar and never before seen locations to bring to light the truth behind these mysterious occurrences.

This video is authentic, according to Bloomberg’s sources, and the game remains on track for a 2021 release. More recent rumors are reportedly fake (presumably this includes a recent Reddit thread calling the game Hogwarts: Dark Legacy). The game was also widely rumored to be called Magic Awakened. However, this was debunked when NetEase Inc.
Controversy over recent statements by Rowling have also made members of the team uncomfortable, according to the report, as well as those involved in a forum on Reddit dedicated to this rumored RPG. The potential sale of Warner Bros. Interactive, its gaming division, could also have a huge impact on the game, especially as nothing has yet been announced.
E3 2020 being cancelled reportedly meant plans for Warner Bros. to announce the game had to be shifted. Another game reveal impacted by COVID-19 was the unveiling of the new Batman game, which will now take place at the DC FanDome. According to Bloomberg’s report, the Harry Potter RPG game will be announced at a later date.
Warner Bros. (nor Avalanche) have not officially confirmed that they are working on a Harry Potter RPG. These reports have not yet been independently verified.
