Feel the Warmth!

For every season there is a beer and the cold winter months are no exception. Strong Scotch ales are the perfect libation to warm you from the inside out and help you forget the dark dreary days. With ABVs up to 10% on the high end, Strong Scotch ales can be a wee bit heavy, thus their other name, Wee Heavy. We aren’t looking for a perfect example of the BJCP style but we are looking for a good representation of the style. Think thick, rich, malty and warming, perhaps a dessert in a glass?

Rules for Entry

Besides being a good representation of the style, we ask that your entry stick by the following rules. Experiment with hops and malts. Be creative and blow our socks off with your creation!

• Between 6-10% ABV
• Maximum of five malts that we already carry in our inventory
• Hop additions must be in increments of ½ ounces (i.e. ½, 1, 1 ½, 2, etc oz. additions), and must be part of our current inventory

Competition Specifics

• Entries due no later than Wednesday, December 31st, 2014
• Entries will be judged Tuesday, January 6th, 2015
• Judges: Great Fermentations staff who are die-hard Strong Scotch Ale lovers
• Entry Fee: none
• Bottle Requirements: 2 bottles

• $50 gift certificate to Great Fermentations
• Opportunity to be Assistant Brewer at Great Fermentations when winning recipe is brewed
• Naming rights to the Great Fementations’ ingredient kit
• Preside over beer’s tapping at Friday Night Club
