Dazon Ingram, one of the state's top basketball prospects, verbally committed to Alabama on Monday night.

The 6-foot-5 point guard from Theodore High School picked the Crimson Tide over UAB, Wichita State and Houston. He took official visits to all four schools and really enjoyed a visit to Tuscaloosa in mid-September. He said Monday it was a tough decision between his two in-state finalists, but he "felt like I had a better relationship with the Alabama coaches."

"I went through the process with my family," Ingram said. "I just really liked Alabama and felt it was the place I wanted to go."

Alabama offered Ingram later in the process than his other top options, but assistant Antoine Pettway was in frequent contact with the talented guard. Pettway told Ingram that he'd have an opportunity to play from Day 1 and that he'd be able to help him get to the next level.

The pitch worked.

Ingram is a big get for Alabama coach Anthony Grant, and is the third commit in the class of 2015. Last year, he led Theodore with 20 points, 10 rebounds and six assists per game. He was named The Press-Register 2014 Coastal Alabama Player of the Year.

He's known as a dynamic athletic with good court vision.

"He makes great decisions, sees the whole floor and makes the right play," Theodore coach Phillip Roebling said. "He knows what to go and when to dish it off to someone ahead who is open. I think he's better suited as a point guard."

Ingram plans to wait until the regular signing period in April to sign a letter of intent with Alabama.
