During Reiki for Kids workshops at Heart in Hand Natural Health and Reiki Training Center in Highland, children receive an introduction to the practice of Reiki. They learn about their true selves, their compassion and their natural healing abilities.
“Reiki can help ease children through the stresses of life’s situations,” says Heart in Hand owner and director Pamela Kozy, who teaches the workshops.
Kozy is a Reiki master teacher and Eden energy medicine practitioner. She says Reiki is a natural healing technique for “stress reduction and relaxation” and an effective touch therapy.
This ancient therapy focuses on electromagnetic fields and provides a means to recharge, realign and rebalance energy fields to create conditions needed to help manage pain and promote healing at a faster rate.
“Reiki treats the whole person—including body, mind and spirit—creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace," Kozy says.

She has taught Reiki for 16 years to more than 900 students. She offered her first Reiki for Kids class more than 13 years ago, when she noticed an increase in youth coming in for treatment. “It was then that I began teaching children how to give Reiki to themselves,” she says.
Kids seem to have a natural awareness of healing energy, she says, so it's easy for them to learn. “Learning Reiki encourages empathy and a feeling of connection to living things, plants and animals, allowing them to carry forward into their relationships with other people," she says.
