Robert A.M. Stern has designed some of New York City's most expensive condos in 15 Central Park West and some of the future most expensive condos in 520 Park Avenue. His newest building, 20 East End Avenue, won't be quite as expensive as either of those places (don't worry — it will still be unconscionably expensive, with prices starting around $4.5 million and rising above $20 million for the penthouses) and will instead try to stand out in a different way: with the amenities. Here's a list, via the recent Times profile of the development:
· On the second floor, a wood-paneled library with a New York City history collection curated by Robert A.M. Stern himself. Also, a separate billiards room, private poker room, and bar.
· Below ground, a wine cellar, wine tasting room, and kitchen for parties.
· Also below ground, a 3,000-square-foot gym with shower rooms and a spa. Also, storage space and laundry rooms.
· Back up on the second floor, an alcohol-storage locker for each residence.
· The rare motor court.
· A lobby with a Venetian plaster ceiling, marble and limestone floors, blackened steel staircase, and "a three-story bronze hanging light fixture in the center."
· Inside the apartments, some of the last wood-burning fireplaces approved by the city before the ban.
· As you can see from the rendering, a number of terraces with the upper-floor apartments.
The building, which will be 17 stories and contain 43 units (four more than previously reported) was purchased by Corigin Real Estate Group, who paid $61.75 million to the City University of New York in January of 2013. The project is expected to be completed in summer of 2016.
