Ad Visibility - Are Your Ads Being Seen?

by Dave Cottrell

Ad visibility is seldom talked about.  If you go looking, you'll find a lot of information about subject lines, ad copy, emotional words, etc., but none of these things matter if no one is seeing your ads.

Regardless of what you've heard about classified advertising, pay-per-click, targeted traffic, email marketing, etc, etc,  the fact remains that if you want to make sales, you need your ad to be visible to a lot of people.

Even with pay-per-click (ppc) advertising on major sites like Google and Yahoo, which can be extremely expensive, you might only get clicks and no sales.  Clicks don't pay.  The average person just can't afford this kind of marketing.

getting eyeballs on your ads

There is an abundance of books from the "gurus" telling you all about all their secret tricks, tweaks and special software to make you wealthy in a hurry using ppc, etc., but the bottom line is:  These self-proclaimed experts are making their fortunes convincing you to spend money you can't afford on "systems" that bring no result. If you complain, they'll direct your attention you to the disclaimer at the bottom of their website that says that "not everyone will get these results and there is no guarantee that anyone will get any results,"  etc., etc.

The best way to make sales on your site is to get a LOT of FREE traffic to your site.  Even the free traffic exchanges help, if you use them correctly, but remember, they have their limites.  Visiting blogs and forums posting valuable comments (not ads), and always including a signature file is an excellent way to boost your traffic from the search engines.  Blogging on a regular basis is another terrific source of organic traffic.  It doesn't matter as much as many people think just how good you are at writing, as long as you are you.  (That's another article).

Free classified advertising is an excellent way to quickly gain ad visibility. People have always loved to search through classified ads for good deals and for job and business opportunities. Free classified ads are targeted and get your product or service in front of people who are actually looking for it.

Classified ads are easy to create and post. The most difficult part is in actually creating the ad. Once you're finished, you can paste it into as many free classified ad sites as you can find.

Be creative and change your ad slightly from time to time. This tells the search engines that your website is a really important place to visit.  Every ad you place is a new backlink, telling the search engines to raise your ranking. It's very effective, and it's free!
