For many people, there’s nothing better on a hot afternoon than a nice cold dip in the pool.
There’s at least one black bear in Southern California who would wholeheartedly agree.
With much of the state caught in the grip of a heat wave, animals of all kinds (including human animals) are looking for any way to beat the heat.
And like the neighbours down the street you barely know, who show up one day on your front porch, towels and bathing suits in hand, well – this bear is hoping the pool’s owner doesn’t mind sharing.
And if he does, the bear doesn’t seem all that bothered. The footage shows him lazing about on the pools steps, playing in the water and looking like any other contented bather.
In fact, the only thing that could have completed the image was if the man had offered the bear a beach ball and a Mai Tai.
According to the homeowner, this is the first time he’s ever seen a bear in his back yard, though they are occasionally spotted in his Sierra Madre, California neighbourhood on garbage day, looking for snacks.
Eventually, the bear wanders off, his heat crisis resolved. Hopefully he opts for a lake or pond next time, but then again – who likes dealing with the crowds?
