Why You Should Go Mobile

Let’s go back in time, about seven years. Look around and what do you see? Some people with cellphones and desktop computers, but mainly everyone still prefers to use their “landline” as their primary use of communication. There are the select few that have touchscreen phones and tablets, but those technologies are not very practical when nobody else has access to them. Fast forward to present day, where the majority of American’s don’t have a home telephone and primarily use their smartphones for daily functions and all of their communication needs. Within the last four years, smartphones and tablets have increased internet use by 93%!

Currently, nearly half of consumers say they won’t return to a website if it doesn’t load properly on their mobile devices. So, what does that mean for your company? You should go mobile and here are some reasons why.

For the first time ever, Americans use mobile and tablet apps more than desktop PCs to connect to the internet.

According to a study CNN conducted earlier this year, mobile devices accounted for 55% of internet usage; apps made up 47% of internet traffic with 8% of traffic coming from mobile browsers; and PCs clocked in at 45% in the U.S. in January 2014. PCs have been experiencing their worst downfalls in history lately and the trend is likely to continue. In the last three years, smartphone and tablet use has nearly doubled among Americans and is projected to skyrocket in the upcoming years.

The future to come.

The world of mobile has already kicked-off and is only expected to increase. According to eMarketer, North America continues to drive the lion’s share of the mobile internet ad spend growing from 18.8% in 2013 to 49.1% in 2017 and expects US mobile advertising to almost quadruple by 2017 and reach $31.1 billion. Looking at the stats, desktop internet usage is sure to almost completely diminish for the future, meaning majority of your site visitors will be mobile! If you aren’t taking advantage of the upcoming mobile take over, then your competitors surely will.

Mobile marketing is the future.

Every successful business man or woman knows how important it is to keep up with consumers and upcoming trends. Based on the statistics above, there is no doubt that mobile is the way to go in order to send your business in the proper direction. Smartphones are currently outselling PCs and if you have a website it is very important to be sure that it is also mobile friendly in order to optimize visits and keep viewers on your site longer. According to Convince&Convert, the upcoming rise in 3g and 4g data in countries like India and China proved to be a massive shift in the dynamic of mobile web usage due to the poor infrastructure in most major metro areas which in turn, leads to slower and more expensive at-home connections thus providing a real opportunity for smart phones in these markets. Essentially, smartphone traffic will boost your overall traffic and help you better reach your audiences while on the go, no matter where they are. Going mobile will also help your followers share your site and get others in the community to easily access what you have to offer and better yet- all of this is right in the palm of their hand!
