The Living Room BEFORE

A newlywed couple's Dallas, Texas, living room had good bones, but looked plain and unimaginative. Studio Ten 25 designer Abbe Fenimore's goal was to create a modern aesthetic that went with the new furniture and overall design of the house. "The homeowners wanted the room to be both sleek and comfortable — and the fireplace was our biggest focus," she says.

To make the fireplace the focal point of the room, Fenimore added glass tile instead of installing a mantel. "We opted to apply glass tile directly on the wall to frame and showcase the fireplace," she says. "The linear glass tile has a mix of complementary colors that work with the room's existing color palette of taupe, white, light blue, and deep brown." To achieve the modern look and pull the whole room together, Fenimore gave the fireplace a stainless steel frame and a clear glass interior.
