It’s August, Must Be Family Fun Month

Aug 11, 2022

Each year, Family Fun Month is celebrated in August. As the summer is winding down and the kids will be back to school before you know it, it’s the perfect time to make family fun time a priority.

Not only will celebrating Family Fun Month help you spend some fun together and make some lasting memories, but you will also be giving your child much, much more. Protective factors counter risk factors that can lead to negative outcomes, such as challenges in learning, poor behavior, and even substance misuse. You can learn more about this in a prior blog post about the HOPE Framework, or by tuning into this episode of the Power of Prevention Podcast with guest Lynn Lyons .

And, if higher gas, utility, and food bills are leaving you with no discretionary dollars for fun, take heed. There are lots of fun things you can do together for free. The Traveling Mom blog maps out 42 free things you can do with your family even beyond Family Fun Month.

So get out there – enjoy these last days of summer. Sing and dance in the rain. Make some popcorn and look at the stars. Most importantly, just try to laugh and have some fun with your family. The little things make all the difference.
