Eric and Elizabeth, this is all part of the Metropolitan Planning Organization's plan so these construction projects are going to be spread out over a long period of time. But, there are some that officials hope to address sooner than later ... Like DART. That project involves adding a bus rapid transit system, which are buses that are like "surface subways." One of the main reasons for this plan is to keep up with population growth, which city officials expect to reach 750-thousand by 20-50. To accommodate for that population spike and Iowans relying less on their cars and more on bike or public transportation they plan to add more on-street bike paths like the one recently finished on Ingersoll Avenue. MPO Executive Director Todd Ashby says the metro won't necessarily look vastly different than it does now but it will look vastly improved. <"THERE WILL BE MORE EFFICIENCY IN THE SYSTEM.
