Dear City of Schenectady Council Members and County Legislators:
I am a registered voter in the City of Schenectady and/or County and am appalled to learn that the City has been running an animal control holding facility and located it at the sewer plant. City voters pay high taxes and to learn that the City is cutting corners at the expense of poor strays, is unthinkable.
Respectfully, I am asking Mayor Gary McCarthy and the City Council to put a stop to the inhumane and unsanitary living conditions the dogs are forced to live under and move them to a facility that can properly care for them, as has been done in the past when the City contracted with one of the local animal shelters.
I am asking for this place to be shut down, as it should have never been allowed to be created in the first place. No human or animal should be housed in a sewer plant and claims that the facility has passed inspections should not be an excuse to continue running this facility.
It is clear that the City of Schenectady does not have the capacity to run an adequate animal holding facility nor a shelter. While this may only be a "holding facility" the lack of accountability and adequate care dogs are receiving is inhumane and unacceptable.
Respectfully,
Your name
