Let us provide you with some tips and tricks on researching land and building records from our rich collection.

There are many different entry points into researching land and buildings through the archives. How and where you start depends largely on where the land and buildings are located and what we have in our collection relating to your area. This workshop aims to give you the tools to find these stories.

Every month a behind-the-scenes tour of the Archives. We’ll explore the hidden repository of antique books, maps, photographs, petitions and even take a look at La Trobe’s correspondence files! Afterwards enjoy a café and cake at the Café 99.

Crime and punishment: a history of Bendigo’s law and order

The history of Bendigo's goldfields is steeped in opium smoking, sly-grogging and simmering racial tension. This new exhibition, featuring original records from our collection is on display at the Post Office Gallery Bendigo.

You're invited to explore the social history surrounding Bendigo's law and order from court house, police barracks, lock-ups and gaol to some of the most notorious crimes of the 1800s!

Local History Grants Program – Now Open!

Fascinated by Victorian history? Working on a research project to help preserve  or celebrate the richness of our heritage?

We are now accepting applications for the 2014-2015 Local History Grants Program. Public Record Office Victoria will be distributing small grants to communities across Victoria to projects that preserve, share and publish Victoria’s history.

We would like to congratulate the winners of the 2014 Museums Australia (Victoria) Awards. The Awards celebrate the achievements of the museum and gallery sector.

Four of this year’s winners came from our Places of Deposit Program. This really highlights the important work that these organisations and individuals do to preserve Victoria’s history. A special congratulations go to:
