SPCS students invited to contribute essays to celebrate Nontraditional Student Week

Degree-seeking undergraduate and graduate students in the School of Professional & Continuing Studies are invited to contribute essays for the Nontraditional Student Week Essay Contest. The top three essays will earn a $50 gift certificate to the UR Bookstore.

The Nontraditional Student Week Essay Contest is being held as part of SPCS Student Week in celebration of National Nontraditional Student Week. Essay contributions are encouraged to address the unique experiences of nontraditional college students like ours, often working professionals attending classes on a part-time basis.

Essay Contest Details

Prize: Top three (3) essays will win a $50 gift certificate from the UR Bookstore

Judges: A committee from the SGA will evaluate and select the most compelling essays

Promotion: Essays may be shared publically by the School

Prompt: When writing your essay, consider these questions:

  • What does being a non-traditional Spider mean to you?
  • What was the path you took to get here? Prior college/work experience, etc.?
  • What challenges have you overcome?
  • What successes have you experienced at UR?
  • How has returning to school impacted your professional life?
  • Have you been empowered by the learning process? If so, how?

Format: Essays must be attached to an email message as properly formatted as Word documents, 12 point, Times New Roman font, double-spaced, with one-inch margins. Your name and student ID must be included at the top right of your document. Length should be no more than 3 pages.
